In July 2011, the BKJ SOLUTIONS team carried out a study for a blue-chip international mining company to determine how to use the Congo River as a barging corridor for a significant export flow of minerals from an inland mining area to the Atlantic Ocean Coast.
Using a combination of existing railways, new railways and the river, providing a potential multimodal solution as an alternative to the construction of a complete new railway line of 1,700 km, which will take significantly more time and investment to realise.
